By 11:00 a.m. – arrival at parking lot P1 of Laxenburg Castle

At 11:00 a.m. - trip by sightseeing train and ferry to Franzensburg Castle and at 11:30 a.m. tour with audio guide in CZ. Emperor Franz II had the castle built on an artificial island in the middle of the castle lake as an imitation of a medieval castle. Franzensburg is associated with Empress Sissi, who spent her honeymoon here with Emperor Franz Joseph. The surrounding Laxenburg Castle Park is rightly listed as a Natura 2000 site.

At 12:00 End of the tour and opportunity for an individual tour of the castle park with a visit to a café or restaurant.

Start of the tour:

Start at the main square, Fő tér, where you will find the imposing Fire Tower, which offers breathtaking views of the entire city.

Take a look at the historic buildings on the square, such as the town hall and the plague column.

Visit the Goat Church, an important church with a rich history.

Stroll down Új utca, where you will find two medieval synagogues and a Jewish museum.

 

Tips and recommendations:

Šoproň is famous for its red wine Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), so don't forget to taste the local wines.

Day 2 

7:00–10:00 a.m. – Breakfast at the hotel

10:00 Departure to Kőszeg. City tour with a local guide in English (1.5 hours). Meet the guide at the parking lot at Károly Róbert tér / Várkör 64 at 10:30 a.m. Kőszeg is famous for its historical traditions and almost perfectly preserved architectural monuments. The importance of this town with a rich history dating back to the 12th century is confirmed by the fact that Kőszeg was once the only free royal town in the entire Vas County. The historic center of the town around the castle has retained its medieval atmosphere to this day.

12:00 – 13:00 Lunch at Bécsikapu Étterem restaurant in Kőszeg

13:00 – Departure to Fertöd

2:00 p.m. – Tour of Esterházy Castle in English 1st group of 25 people (tour duration: 1 hour)

2:30 p.m. – Tour of Esterházy Castle in English 2nd group of 25 people (tour duration: 1 hour)

The Esterházy family was one of the richest and most powerful in Hungary. Miklós Esterházy, a devoted supporter of the monarchy, was a field marshal in the Austrian army, but he also loved art and a life of luxury. Under the motto "What the emperor can do, I can do too," he enjoyed himself mainly at his residence in Eszterháza. The magnificent castle here is considered the most opulent Rococo palace in Hungary and is nicknamed the Hungarian Versailles.

Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Austria, and a tour gives visitors an insight into life at the court of Prince Esterházy. It is also the place where composer Joseph Haydn worked, having been given a home by the Esterházy family, and where he demonstrated his great talent.
