Batumi, the capital of the Adjara region of Georgia, was recently named "Europe's Best Hidden Gem of 2022". Known as the Pearl of the Black Sea, Batumi is located on the coast of Georgia's Ajara region and has previously been recognised by the World Travel Awards as "Europe's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination". Batumi has over 2,000 years of history and has much to offer visitors who want to experience the contrast between ancient monuments and modern lifestyle.

Thanks to its year-round mild climate, Batumi is characterised by its green surroundings. Batumi has a 19th century botanical garden with rare plant species and three national parks surround the city. The city's architecture was shaped and designed by European architects in the 19th century, when it was the city of Porto Franca. The city offers a diversity of cultures and religions, where Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims and Jews have lived in harmony for centuries.

Just outside the city is Mtirala National Park, where visitors can discover waterfalls and endemic species. Thanks to the protected areas of Mtirala, Kobuleti and Kintrishi, three of Georgia's four UNESCO World Heritage Sites are located in Ajara. Ajara is also increasingly known as a birdwatcher's paradise, with millions of birds filling the skies during the September migration.
